System management and monitoring at the Neretva river basin

Jure Margeta, Ivana Fistanić

Abstract

The integral system management and monitoring activities at the Neretva river, its delta and coastal area is described in the paper. This system is difficult to manage because of complex natural processes and socioeconomic activities, and due to the fact that the system belongs to two countries. The basic precondition for sustainable management is a good development plan, which also includes an integral water management plan. It is emphasized that the foundations of a sustainable water management lie in development of an appropriate monitoring system as shown in the paper.
